Sodium
The main electrolyte in the fluid outside your cells, responsible for blood volume, blood pressure, and nerve signaling. When insulin falls during a fast, the kidneys flush sodium, so it is usually the first mineral to run low and the most important to replace. Plain sodium has no calories and does not break a fast.
